Under 10’s Match Report

17.10.20 was another early kick-off against Chellaston with the team playing a match on the grass for the first time. Thankfully the girls played a lot better than the adults attempts at putting the goals up pre-match!

A nine-goal thriller followed. It took Derby a few minutes to get in to stride and saw them going behind twice but credit to the team they never let their heads drop and turned in their best team performance once it clicked.

Eva began in goals with Jasmine and Evie in defence, Ava Georgia and Izzy made up the midfield with Eleanor staring up front.

Daisy scored the first Derby goal shortly after coming on together with Megan who defended strongly and let nothing past.

Jasmine and Evie were getting in plenty of tackles and using the ball well finding space and team mates demonstrating the ever-increasing confidence and how they are all progressing in training and matches.

Eleanor, Izzy, Ava and Georgia kept the ball well in the first half and the number of successful passes increased but they just couldn’t find an opening thanks to some good Chellaston defending.

The second half saw a change in goal with Eleanor taking over the gloves and continue on from Eva’s good first half performance, making some important saves and distributing the ball out well to her team mates, starting off several good attacking moves as a result.

Evie once again showed how the training and match time is really benefiting all the girl’s confidence wise by her decision making when defending resulting in many successful tackles, passes and forward runs with the ball including a good run towards the end. A goal can’t be too far away.

Megan and Jasmine kept the Chellaston attackers at bay restricting them to only one second half goal whilst covering the whole width of the pitch when needed. They started off several good moves from the back showing again that it is a team game and a strong defence and teamwork is important.

Izzy continued to cause problems with her running both on and off the ball and nearly scored with a very good run, another goal isn’t far away.

Daisy continued her fine goal scoring run with two more in the second half and looked very pleased with her tally at the end, all very good finishes.

Georgia got her goal after seeing an opportunity when the ball went back in to play thanks to some quick thinking.

Eva following a good forward move scored her first Derby goal with a nice confident finish and enjoyed her celebration, she continues to use her pace well with and without the ball.

The loudest cheer of the game and no doubt of the day was reserved for Derby’s other goal scorer, it had been coming for several weeks with Ava getting the goal she has been working so hard to get. I am sure a tap in would have sufficed but this was a very well taken goal by Ava who showed some great close control and a clinical finish to get her goal. Apparently, mum had to go and have a lie down after the game, and our ears are still ringing from the screaming.

Some good team goals scored, but also important to note this is a team game. All the girls are showing on the pitch how hard they are all working in training & are learning from each match. They are playing with increasing confidence and ability and just as importantly big smiles.
