Griffiths Pays Tribute to Departing Striker Hannah Keryakoplis

Derby County Women’s Manager Sam Griffiths has paid tribute to departing striker Hannah Keryakoplis and admits that replacing the prolific striker will be a tough ask.

Keryakoplis departs the club due to work and personal commitments and leaves with the best wishes of everyone associated with the club having starred in 25 games for the Ewe Rams with an impressive goal record of 23 goals.

Griffiths said “I’d like to wish Hannah all the best in whatever she decides to do next, she has been a real asset since we signed her a couple of seasons ago from Stoke City Ladies and I knew what a great player we were signing and I am very sorry to see her leave.

“However, we totally understand her personal reasons for this and she’ll always be warmly welcomed at the club whenever and I certainly hope she manages to stay playing the game in some capacity as she will be a big loss if she doesn’t continue but a real asset to a lucky team.

“She added a totally different dimension for us, and was asked to play in various positions and always just got on with the job in hand. Her record in her two season at the club speaks for itself and we are only sad that this pandemic robbed us of seeing her in action more for the club.

“I know I speak on behalf of the whole club in wishing her well for the future and we hope that she can keep the white and black flag flying over in Wales for us.”

Club CEO Duncan Gibb added “It’s been a pleasure watching Hannah turn out for us and not only was she first class on the pitch, she was always on hand to help out with off the field commitments despite being by far the furthest away geographically.

“Had things not gone pear-shaped across the world with this pandemic, I truly believe she would have had her eye on the Derby County Women’s goalscoring record and her departure leaves a massive hole for us to fill.

“I can only wish her and her great family, who we got to know well, all the very best and she will always be welcome at the club and we look forward to renewing acquaintances in the future at a match either on or off the field.”

Thank You Hannah from all at Derby County Women!
