Derby County Football Club Women

DCFCW 2020/21 Awards Announced

Derby County Women are pleased to announce their Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season Winners presented by our Front of Shirt Partner Utilita Football, bringing to an end the curtailed 2020/21 season.

The 2020/21 season much like the previous season was curtailed due to the Covid-19 pandemic with less than half of the FAWNL league season played and a decision was made to void the season, with only the Women’s FA Cup to continue until the club were knocked out of the competition.

With a significant amount of games still played across the season, the Ewe Rams Players, Staff and Board have chosen their winner of our Player of the Season Award and Young Player of the Season Award below……..

Player of the Season Award

Nominations: Amy Sims | Ellie Gilliatt | Emily Joyce | Jade Formaston | Jodie Michalska | Sherry McCue | Sophie Domingo

Derby County Women Player of the Season is Sherry McCue

Speaking to DCFCW Media, Manager Sam Griffiths said “I am thrilled Shez has won this award, she has been out most consistent player this season for us, she has been asked to play out of position for the majority of the season and still constantly turned out player of the match performances.

“Everybody needs a ‘Shez’ in their team, the heart and desire she plays with week in week out is a credit to her and sets the standards of what we want from a Derby County player.

“Shez has played at the highest level and the quality she brings to the group speaks for itself, she’s a pleasure to coach and I’m proud to have had the opportunity to manage her for the last 2 seasons.”

Young Player of the Season Award

Nominations: Amy Sims | Emily Joyce | Sophie Domingo

Derby County Women Young Player of the Season is Emily Joyce

Ewe Rams Boss Sam Griffiths said “It’s hard to believe Joycey is still eligible for this award as I feel I have been coaching her for many years! I always knew she had something special from when I coached her at under U17’s.

“Her grit and determination to come back this season from a serious ACL injury says everything about this player. Her energy and relentless is what makes her a special player.

“She works so hard and has added a different dimension to her game this season which has been so important for us. I’m so pleased for her that after such a hard season last year she has come back (in my opinion) a better player than before and been rewarded with this award.”

The 2020/21 season was not what anyone was expecting, however much like the global world, the Football Family have come together at all levels. The Ewe Rams have once again had a year to remember with many positives that have come from this situation.

However, we recognise that we couldn’t have done this without the support from many people and we’d like to say a massive Thank You to our Fans and Club Partners for their support across the 2020/21 season and we hope we will be able to get back to normal for the upcoming 2021/22 season.
