Under 13's Match Report

DCLFC U13s v Woodlands FC

Open views over Quarndon appealed to the eye but invited the wind to have it’s fun along the designated field of play, condemning Derby’s U13’s to a first half job that would go against both the wind and the slightly uphill lay of the land.  But in truth Derby were in no mood to yield to any resistance, whether it be Mother nature or the opposing team.  A game dominated from the off turned into a routine encounter, the Derby goal barely threatened throughout.

Chances came Derby’s way from the off, but the opener came after 15 minutes in unusual circumstances when a Derby corner, taken by Liv managed to curl it’s way directly into the back of the net against the wind!  Another corner was initially defended, but Liv picked up the second ball and put in a dangerous cross which was guided in by the outstretched foot of Charlie to make it 2-0. And she wouldn’t have to wait long for her second of the match when a Stacey corner fell once again to Charlie inside the area, she swivelled 180 degrees and rifled Derby’s third into the back of the net.

The second half and an apparent injury brought a change of keeper for woodlands, but for Derby it brought a wind assisted downhill view of the Woodlands goal.  And the pressure was constant.  Two early goals for Liv effectively killed the game, and Adela and Lucy added to the tally to take the score to 7-0 with plenty of time still on the clock.

To her immense credit, the Woodland’s keeper was on the wrong end of target practice but put in a display to be proud of, making numerous saves and gathering incoming balls with some confidence.  It was perhaps unfortunate that a wayward header from her own defender delivered the coup-de-grace, an own goal to finish game and seal another strong win for Derby.

Final score: Woodlands FC 0 – Derby County 8.
