Under 10’s Match Report

Derbyshire Girls League U10

V Stretton Eagles

Saturday 26th September 2020

The Racecourse – Derby (ATP)

This was the girls second game of the season following last week’s opener against Stanton Ilkeston Panthers which saw five of the team, Eva, Evie, Eleanor, Izzy & Georgia make their Derby debuts alongside Daisy, Jasmine, Ava and Megan.

Although the result last week didn’t go their way, you could see the confidence and team work develop as the game went on. They did great also considering the team hadn’t played any game together before and are a new mix of U9’s and U10’s. The confidence and teamwork continued to develop in training this week as the team continued to gel and work hard.

The second game of the season was an early kick-off in the bright sun against Stretton Eagles.

The team started where they ended the previous week, playing with enthusiasm and confidence whilst looking to showing what they had been working on in training.

Izzy scored her first goal for Derby with a great run and finish. Jasmine and Evie defended well helping Georgia who made a couple of early saves in goal. Derby defended well as a team and they kept a clean sheet in the first half

Daisy, Megan, Ava and Eleanor were full of running and showed to good effect how they had been working on team shape, looking up when on the ball and playing positive football. The first half also saw Daisy go close with several long-range shots that on another day would have been rewarded with a goal (or two).

The second half continued with the girls playing well as a team, working hard for each other and trying to use the whole pitch which is something they had also been working on in training.

There was a change in goals with Megan now between the posts and she continued the good work of the first half by keeping a clean sheet for the second half. The keeper was again supported well by Jasmine and Evie who continued to grow in confidence as the game progressed

Georgia now playing outfield managed to score her first goals for Derby finishing up with a hat-trick, the pick of them being the third, a first-time finish past the keeper.

Daisy also continuing on from the first half went close several more times before she was finally rewarded with her goal and celebrated in great fashion as did the coaches on the touchline.

Ava was confident on the ball and was not afraid to take players on with some nice close control and dribbling. Although not on the scoresheet, Jasmine Evie and Eleanor continued to play their part by helping keep the clean sheet and create the opportunities for their teammates to score.

Stretton did see plenty of the ball and had several good chances themselves. All the girls made big contributions which ensured the team got the result that the performance and effort in training deserved.

A great result built on teamwork, enthusiasm and effort (Plus some good football) all of which show signs of a very positive future for the team.
