Successful Season Points to a Bright Future for Clubs Academy

On the back of the recently announced news that all 2019/20 league and cup competitions in the female game are to be voided beneath the Women’s Super League and Championship, Derby County FC Women’s Academy Director, Dave Cholerton is keen that the successes of the campaign for the clubs U9 – Community sides are celebrated, with everything pointing to a bright future.

“As things sit, there will be whole host of clubs across the UK that are disappointed that their seasons have not only formally come to an end, but have been voided; however for those clubs and teams affected by the news, at least we have some closure in these unsettling and uncertain times.

“We won’t be having to face the prospect of shoe horning fixtures into pre-season which in turn would almost certainly impact on next season, so hopefully we will get to enjoy a full pre-season with the 2020/21 campaign commencing on time.

“At the same time a great deal of football was played this season, and squads across the full breadth of our structure secured some outstanding results, whilst developing their talents in leagues that as a collective have been more challenging than ever before.

“Linked to that our relationship with the RTC continues to develop, with players from both the Academy and RTC enjoying first team football. It’s  fair to say that the star of female football under the Derby County umbrella has never been as strong, which bodes well for the future.

“Things will hopefully become clearer over the coming weeks, and on the back of that we will be able to update players, coaches and parents on our next steps; however for now all of us should reflect on an excellent 2019/20 season.”

With the recent news of the league season coming to a premature end, Derby County Football Club Women will seek to communicate our plans once in a position to sit down, take stock and discuss accordingly. Please bare with us and we will advise as soon as possible.
