Striker Axten Joins Ewe Rams

Derby County Ladies are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Rosie Axten from FA Women’s Championship side Coventry United LFC.

Axten joins having played 17 games for the Red and Whites this season scoring two goals after making the move from Leicester City WFC last summer where she made over 100 appearances and scored over 30 goals in the 2017/18 season for the Foxes.

Axten spoke to DCLFC Media about the move and is looking to replicate her form during the 2017/18 season and said “I’m happy to be back playing in the FA National League where I played for Leicester City back in the 2017/18 season.

“I managed to pick-up the top goalscorer award in the league with 31 goals that season and I’m excited to play for Derby County Ladies as I know they are a talented side who know exactly what their end goals is and I hope I can come in and add to this.

“I’ll be aiming to help them push for promotion, hopefully this year but if not next year. There is so much quality in the team and I’m buzzing to be a part of it. Hopefully I can kick-off straight away for my first match with the #EweRams this afternoon against Sheffield WFC.”

Manager Sam Griffiths also spoke to DCLFC Media about the striker and how she had kept her eye on her for the past few seasons as she said “Im glad to have finally got Rosie over the line, she came training with us a couple of years ago when I was still a player, I was really impressed with her then but unfortunately opted to stay with Leicester.

“Having played against her for a few years we know what she brings in terms of pace, strength and a good word ethic, not to mention a bullet free kick that we have been on the receiving end of previously.

“When we heard she was available it was a no brainer for me shes someone that will fit right in and compliment the squad we already have, I look forward to working with Rosie.”

Rosie goes straight into the squad for this afternoon’s game with Sheffield WFC which is a 2pm Kick-Off at Etwall Leisure Centre. If you can’t join us follow the build-up and Twitter commentary by following @DerbycountyLFC.
