Prolific Hamilton Makes Ewe Rams Return

Derby County Women are delighted to have signed prolific striker Precious Hamilton for the remainder of the 2020/21 FA National League Northern Division campaign.

The former Ewe Ram makes her return to the club she started her career at and will look to help fire the club to promotion. Hamilton spent the voided 2019/20 season at East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest Women where she finished top scorer across the league.

Speaking to DCFCW Media, Precious spoke of her delight at returning to her first club. “It’s amazing to be back at the club, I’m a Derby girl. I played here from the age of 12 until I was 18, it’s where I started my career and it shaped me as a player and definitely feels like home.

“There’s a good set-up here at Derby, they have a great structure behind the scenes which is always an important foundation. They have aspirations to to win the league and that’s the kind of club I want to play for. After a conversation and having roots in Derby, I knew it was the perfect fit for me.

“I’m excited to work with Sam again, she was a great player and I enjoyed playing with her. Her temperament and management style will suit me, we get on well and have a good understanding so now I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to work with her.”

With the season on hold for a month due to a second national lockdown, the former Forest, Leicester City, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Lincoln City star admits it’s frustrating but see’s it as an opportunity to get back up to speed and be ready to hit the ground running when the league returns to action.

“The news from the FA of the league fixtures being put on hold for the next month has put a bit of a downer on my return but it gives me a little time to get back up to speed having missed the first few games of the season.

“I had a decent season last year and scored a few goals so I’m looking forward to getting back out there and doing even better for Derby. I have a bit of experience now, so I’m hoping to pass that on to the team where needed and help support the younger players.

“We are a good footballing side, we have talented and exciting players across the squad and I’m looking forward to linking up with them and seeing what we can do. As a striker, my job is to score goals and goals win games, so I’m hoping I can contribute and help push us towards promotion.”

Ewe Rams Boss Sam Griffiths was pleased to have signed her former teammate and believes Precious can add an extra dimension to a side that are in the mix for promotion and can be the difference that gives them the edge.

Griffiths said “I’m really excited to see Precious return to the club, she has always had that little bit extra in her and we have seen her go from strength to strength across her career and it’s exciting that she is now with us and hopefully she can add more firepower to our squad.

“When we found out that she was available, we felt that we had to touch base with her and see if she’d be interested and she jumped at the chance to return to her roots. I could sense that she felt it was the right move and it gives us another great option in the final third of the pitch.

“The break from football probably gives her a good chance to hit the ground running when we return to action, she’ll be working to the plans we have put in place and that will get her up to speed. She’s been prolific all across her career, has the experience to seamlessly slot in and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds now.”
