Derby County Football Club Women

Generous Club Partner Ensuring Academy Well-Being

A fantastic gesture by a Derby County Women’s Club Partner has ensured that all teams across the Academy will continue to receive fitness training during the period of lockdown, ensuring the well-being of its players and giving a much-needed boost across the club.

Purpose Media, the Derbyshire based full-service marketing agency, have backed the Ewe Rams for four consecutive seasons offering both partnership for it’s Under 14’s Academy side as well as digital help across the club and for Managing Director Matt Wheatcroft, the opportunity to step in and provide assistance was a no-brainer.

Wheatcroft said “We’ve worked with Derby County Women for a number of seasons now and we’ve always had a brilliant working relationship and both sides have mutually benefitted from its partnership and stepping in to offer the fitness training across the Academy was an idea that we at Purpose Media wanted to provide.

“This last year has been nothing short of disastrous for grassroots football and as a Dad and a Coach to girls within the Academy, to have what is normal to them, taken away so suddenly has been tough to handle and we are big advocates for ensuring the mental health of the Academy players, was at the forefront of our offer.

“Across the club, the hard work of the Academy Director and all the brilliant coaches across the club ensured that we got through the first lockdown with various initiatives in place and we came out stronger and that has been seen in the short period we have been back up and running with the development each team has shown.

“We hope that this will be a shorter lockdown but the same ethos applies that the well-being of the Academy players is crucial and these Personal Training sessions will go a long way to ensuring that we can best prepare and keep the players socially together as well as good within themselves.”

Speaking to DCFCW Media, Academy Director Dave Cholerton praised the offer from the team at Purpose Media and is looking forward to seeing the squads together and enjoying themselves over the lockdown period.

Cholerton said “It’s a brilliant gesture from Matt and the team at Purpose Media, we are really humbled by it and to think that they have thought about the welfare of our Academy players and stepped in to provide assistance is a proud moment across the club and fully shows the mutual benefit of our partnership.

“As a team with our Coaches, we’ve been working around the clock to come up with ideas to keep everyone fresh both mentally and physically during this second lockdown and whilst we have various social ideas that will be undertaken, to be able to give a physical offer that is good for both mind and body is amazing.

“The sessions will be taken by Dan Payandeh from www.Fit316.co.uk where over the next 4 weeks starting from this Tuesday, he will be running a Zoom PT session that all players from across the Academy will be encouraged to attend and take part.

“Dan has also offered the Academy teams and their players future sessions with him and we have no doubt that these will be beneficial for everyone connected with the club and we’ll be passing out details of booking these sessions below.

“As a club, it’s been a difficult year and we’ve all had to adapt but these adaptations have been made a lot smoother by the gesture of Purpose Media and we are very thankful to them and look forward to continuing our flourishing partnership for many years.”
