Ewe Rams Christmas Hospital Tradition…..With a Difference

Derby County Women have continued their Christmas tradition of delivering presents to the Children’s Ward at Derby Royal Hospital despite being unable to visit due to the ongoing restrictions in place.

The Ewe Rams and Club Partners Brilliant Hygiene and BG Mechanical Ltd joined the 1st Team squad in providing gifts this Christmas hoping to spread some much needed festive spirit to the children and staff.

Derby County Women’s Operations Director Dave Marriott spoke to DCFCW Media after delivering the presents securely to the hospital earlier this week.

Marriott said “We’re gutted to have not been able to visit the Children’s Hospital this year, it’s always a very humbling experience and one that each and every member of our squad look forward too.

“Understandably, things have had to be a bit different this year but we were adamant that we still needed to do what we could and I know after the year we’ve had, it’s much needed for the kids and staff.

“This year we’ve been joined in giving gifts by Ian Campbell and the team at Brilliant Hygiene, and Ben and Helen Grange and the team at BG Mechanical Ltd and we can’t thank them enough for joining us on this journey.

“Having delivered the presents and speaking to the staff and hearing what they’ve had to put in place this year, to keep the spirits up of the children, the staff are amazing and we’ve said it a lot this year but these guys are true heroes, it’s an honour to be in their company.”

Despite not being able to visit this Christmas, 1st Team Captain Hannah Ward is already looking forward to being able to visit next year.

Ward said “I’m gutted that we can’t visit but we need to ensure that we are keeping the children and staff safe and not allowing anything to get in the way of their recovery.

“This for me is the most important part of playing for Derby County Women, making sure that we look beyond a game of football and give some hope to what must be a very tough time for the children, the families and the staff.

“As a club we always ensure that we engrave this into any players that join our club and give that perspective to them as people and it’s been an amazing turn out again this year for gifts this year and I truly hope that it gives them enjoyment and respite from thinking about their illnesses for a short while.

“It’s amazing to see our partners becoming involved too and I send the thanks of the 1st Team Squad to Brilliant Hygiene and BG Mechanical Ltd for joining us on this humbling experience and I know that we are all looking forward to being able to visit hopefully next year, I know already that Ewie has it pencilled in her diary!”
