Ewe Rams Boost Ranks as Formaston Joins

Derby County FC Women have boosted their ranks ahead of the 2020/21 FA National League Northern Division season with the capture of highly rated midfielder Jade Formaston from Coventry United Ladies.

The midfielder ended her 10-year spell at the FA Women’s Championship side to make the move north to the Ewe Rams and she is looking forward to a fresh start after a frustrating final season and wants to hit the ground running.

Formaston said “I’m really excited, I’ve heard good things about the club – professional, organised and have the right ambitions too. I’ve only had a few sessions and one pre -eason game but already I feel part of the team. Can’t wait to get up and running and have the best season I can in a Derby shirt.

“Leaving Coventry was a hard decision, it has been a part of my life for 10 and some years now and was/is special to me And I wish them all the luck in the coming season. Being at the club for so long, I’ve got some amazing friends which I will miss, but I know they will be keeping an eye out on my results and so will I with them.

“The club has been great to me throughout all my playing years, and I just want to take this time to say a huge thank you to everyone who played a part in my footballing days at Coventry but my focus now is looking forward to my new challenge at Derby.”

“One of the main things was the ambition of the club, it’s going in the right direction and for me you want to play for a club that pushes you and the team to the limits to get the best outcome on the pitch. Also, I’ve played a number of games against Derby and always been impressed with how they play, I knew they had a strong side and wanted to be a part of that.

“Hopefully, I’ll bring calmness on the ball with focus on keeping possession of that ball and hoping to bring some goals and assists to the team as I like to attack and get forward. But I also like the defensive duties, love a tackle and a header in the middle, organising and talking throughout game.

“I think from the short time I’ve been here you can already tell that we have the potential on and off the pitch to get to the next level so that is my aim to be a part of that with Derby. The training has been spot on, and it feels professional when you turn up. Everything organised off the pitch too which plays a big part, the players always knowing what’s next, with times and venues.”

Speaking to DCFCW Media, Manager Sam Griffiths was delighted to have secured the signature of the midfielder and believes her experience will be a welcome addition to the ranks of the Ewe Rams.

Griffiths said “I’m really pleased to have signed Jade, it’s been in the works for a while but now that we have everything underway, we can get her name out there as off the table and we can get to work on the training pitch.

“Coventry United have been at the top end of our tier for a long period and last season they were in the FA Women’s Championship so we know that we are getting a quality player who has extensive experience and will help this club move forward.

“I know she had some time out from football but the break has freshened her up and she has fitted in very quickly among the squad and that show in itself what type of person she is and that she buys into a team environment and there the type of player I want in our squad. She knows what it takes to get to the next level and i’m hoping she will drive the standards needed.”
