Ewe Rams Announce 2020/21 Squad Numbers

Derby County Women have announced their squad numbers ahead of the first game of the FA National League Northern Division season against Loughborough Foxes.

The Ewe Rams have made changes to their squad with a number of departures and new arrivals and Boss Sam Griffiths believes they go into the new season with renewed hope of picking up where they left off last season.

Griffiths said “We are pleased with the make-up of our squad, we’ve recruited quality additions and largely kept most of the squad together. It’s a smaller squad than previous seasons but we’re happy and it gives us room to manoeuvre later in the season should we need reinforcements.

“I think even more this year there’s going to be a lot of teams of similar quality and it will come down to who can be consistent on their day and it’s wide open. I think every club has recruited well and we’re going to need to start well and accumulate the points early and not leave us playing catch-up.

“The pathway we are creating here at the club is also going to be vital moving forward this season. We’ve always wanted to be sustainable as a club and we are working hard with the U20’s and I’m seeing the quality we have coming through and that excites us and I’ve no doubt we’ll be seeing new faces coming through this year.”

2020/21 Season

The new additions to the squad all come to the club with FA Women’s Championship experience and Griffiths is excited to see them in action and also the return of another vital cog at the club after long-term injury.

“Bringing in three new players all with experience in higher leagues, strengthens us as a team and that starts at the last line of defence which is where the signing of Charlotte Clarke is a huge coup for us. She’s an England U21 international and has a really good presence about her and will give those in front off her confidence.

“Signing both Jade and Katie will boost us in the middle of the park and gives us plenty of options there. They both add something a little bit different and that will ensure we can go to Plan A, Plan B or Plan C should we need to change tact. Katie is very versatile and Jade has that strength and height to go with her quality that we’ve probably lacked in the past.

“Another boost is the return of Emily Joyce to the squad. She was out player of the season a couple of years back and was injured in our final game and missing the whole of last season was a huge blow to us. It’s like having a new signing her being back and she’s just the same as she was, tenacious with that quality that compliments us.

“I’ve no doubt that we are going to be there or thereabouts again this year, it’s going to be tough but were all in the same boat I think and for the neutral its exciting and its our job to go out and make sure we are going at 100% week in, week out and stay focused for the whole game.”
