Derby County Football Club Women

Derby University Women’s Football

Our Unique Partnership with Derby University was enhanced in 2020 with the appointment of Graham Abercrombie to the role of The University of Derby Women’s Football Manager.

The role is a dual partnership between Derby County Women and the University of Derby and will see the Ewe Rams ethos strengthened through the University Women’s Football Programme.

As part of the Scholarship agreement in place between the University and the Ewe Rams for players to study on the UK’s only Football Journalism undergraduate degree course, whilst also featuring for the University team and the Ewe Rams, means that Abercrombie’s appointment has potential long-term success for the relationship to get even bigger.

Derby County Football Club Women’s Chief Executive, Duncan Gibb is delighted to have secured Graham’s services and long term commitment to a project that the club have been working on with the university for some time.

“Having a seamless conduit between the University women’s team and DCFCW sits at the core of our longer term collective aspirations with the university.

“We currently have three of our Academy players enjoying full bursaries within the Football Journalism course, and the hope is to eventually broaden the educational offer in order to attract players with strong potential from both within our club currently and outside of it.”
