Charlotte Clarke Makes Ewe Rams Return

Derby County Women have continued their preparations for the upcoming season with the return of former Ewe Ram and England Under 21 Goalkeeper Charlotte Clarke for the 2020/21 FA National League campaign.

The highly-rated Goalkeeper has made the move down the A50 from rivals Stoke City Women, rejoining the club after 3 seasons away at both the Potteries Women and FA Championship side Leicester City Women and believes she has come back to the club as a more experienced player.

Clarke said “I’m really pleased to be back at the club and can’t wait to get going this season. I believe that we as a club will work hard to progress and that we are more than capable of competing for the league title in what is always a very competitive league.

“I’m very much looking forward to seeing some familiar faces, some of whom I have grown up with throughout my football career so far and will continue to grow with. I do feel a more rounded goal keeper since my first stint at the club from my experience in the FA Championship and the recent England camp I have been on.

“Football doesn’t always go the way you planned and that there will be set backs along the way. But it’s also made me realise that set backs are only temporary and that if you work for it, the hard work will pay off. I have had to deal with disappointment, but also encountering one of the highlights of my football in such a short space of time.

“My ambitions in the game are to play at the very best I can and be at the top of the game. However ultimately I want to enjoy playing football as this is the most important part of it for me. The more you enjoy it the better you’ll play and the better experience you will have.

“I am really looking forward to working with Sam throughout the season. After my first stint at the club and being a teammate of Sam’s, I know that she is not only a great manager but a lovely person as well and I can’t wait to get the season started and for us to really push on this season. We haver a great squad and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this season.”

Speaking to DCFCW Media, Boss Sam Griffiths is delighted with the return of Charlotte and believes having a strong Goalkeeper unit will be a key aspect of developing as a club this season.

Griffiths said “I’m really pleased that we have got Charlotte back to the club, I was still playing when she was here last time but you could see the immense talent she had back then and that has only been enhanced since and we are getting another excellent goalkeeper.

“She has worked very hard at her game and that has been recognised by the England set-up and being in the Under 21 set-up is an amazing achievement and shows what a good player she is and she is only going to keep on getting better and we’re hoping to help her achieve her goals and our own by getting to where we want to be.

“We believe bringing Charlotte in will give us good options for the season ahead and we have a group that will be pushing each other and looking to secure their place in the side. They all add their own strengths and now they can help enhance each other which can only be good for the club.”
