Derby County Football Club Women

Academy Report with Dave Cholerton.

To say this has been a difficult time for everyone would be an understatement and my thoughts are with anyone who has lost loved ones during this crisis.

I’d like to pay tribute as well to our fabulous NHS and the many key workers who are keeping our lives ticking over at this current time.

Of course, it’s difficult to talk about our lives both before and what is to come in the coming months but for those that find solace in football like many of us do, we want to give hope that soon when it is safe to do so, and our lives return to some normality, we can get back to doing what we love to do.

Hopefully you will have received the correspondence we sent out to all parents of our Academy last week and as detailed in that email, we won’t be holding our Development Days until it is safe to do so, if we do at all. As a club we are going to have to adapt our structures that we put in place and so for that reason I want to remind you:

  • All current players will be invited back to pre-season training with Derby County FC Women when we get the go-ahead to do so.
  • Decisions on squads will be formed once this has started and we will do our utmost to ensure that we bring as many players back as possible to our squads.
  • We will be welcoming any new players that want to join in this pre-season process too!

Clearly our plans for how we normally end our seasons with various events such as Tournaments, End of Season Awards, Development Days etc have been thrown into chaos and as such we have yet to make a firm decision on most of these as ideally we want to go through with some of these.

Our End of Season Tournament is one that has had a firm decision made, in that this will be postponed until next season now but we’ll be back with a bigger and better tournament at the end of next season. Many of our Squads also take part in the Aces tournament each year and as a club, we will discuss this when more is known about dates and also about the safety of our Academy players.

Our Awards Night was due to be staged at the beginning of June but this has been out back for now though we are hopeful of being able to do something but not until it is safe to do so. Our squads have worked so hard this year that we want to reward them for that but we need to keep to the advice given.

It’s been great to see and hear about our Academy players keeping themselves in shape and keeping their skill base up in their gardens at home. We’d love to see more of this and also we’d love to showcase some of our Academy Players whilst in Lockdown so please contact our Media Manager Andy Moore on if you’d like to be featured.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, I’ll be keeping in touch via our Academy Reports to talk about various aspects of the club, our future plans and to keep ourselves both physically and mentally fit by staying in touch!

It’s a very testing time for all at the moment but the resilience of both our Academy Players and you, the Parents are why I know that we will get through this and we’ll soon be back together playing for the #EweRams.

Stay Safe, Save Lives
