Derby County Women Academy moved to the top of the table after comfortable 4-0 win over Coalville Town at Mickleover Sports club in the East Midlands Women’s Regional League

It was a positive start from Ewe Rams when in the 2nd minute, Anya Bourne broke through the defensive line to meet a tidy through ball. Her effort was saved right into the path of Isabella Mauro, who slotted home the rebound.

The early lead gave Derby confidence going forward and they could have easily been more than one ahead before Coalville had their first chance on 25 minutes. The away side’s chance came from a corner which was drilled into the near post. Lizzy Jackson connected with the delivery and fired her chance just wide.

Coalville grew back into the game and started to pick up some momentum. Derby continued to be on the front foot, but a resolute Coalville defence managed to keep them out. That was until the 45th minute when Anya Bourne found space to shoot on the edge of the box. Her low driven effort into the bottom corner beat a rooted keeper, giving the home side a 2-0 lead heading into half-time.

Derby started the second half well and Juliet Hilton had the first chance of the second half with a strike across goal that went just wide.

It didn’t take long after that for Ewe Rams to grab their third, Bourne scored a brace making that two in the last two home games as she tapped the ball in from a goal mouth scramble.

With 20 minutes to go it was all Derby going forward. The Coalville backline was struggling to contain Ewe Rams and got a lucky escape when Rosie Hunt hit the bar from a free-kick 20-yards-out.

However, the fourth did come only five minutes later when Hilton grabbed the fourth with a good strike from close range.

It was a comfortable win for the hosts with a solid team performance being matched by individual brilliance, allowing Ewe Rams to take all three points.
