Derby County Football Club Women

A Look Ahead….. With Jodie Michalska

Derby County Women’s forward Jodie Michalska believes the hard work being put in on the training ground is beginning to come together and is confident the whole package will come soon.

The Ewe Rams go into today’s game with Burnley FC Women on the back of 3 points on the road at Middlesbrough last week and the experienced forward is looking to play her part.

Michalska said “Our performance against Fylde was excellent and we felt unlucky with that result but we didn’t take it to heart, that’s football at the end of the day, we just put it to bed and moved on.

“Last week at Middlesbrough we started off really well in the first-half, we scored the goals and then probably let it slip a little in the second-half. We had a lot of shots and we’ve been working hard on that in training.

With injury almost curtailing her career, the former Sheffield FC star with bags of experience in the WSL is enjoying a second lease of life at the Ewe Rams and feels she’s now found her place.

“I never thought I’d play again, i’ve got arthritis in my ankle but i’m managing it ok at the minute. When we’re winning games and we’ve got a big squad, we can bring me off to help with that.

“I’m still learning as a player, Sunday was different for me as I played a role which was almost a winger so I was a bit ‘am I defending, am i Going’ but did Ok I think.

“It was hard when I first came in, I struggled because i’m a lot older and this is a young group but this season now i’m fit and constantly involved, I just feel welcome and enjoying playing again.

“Today will be another tough test but we just need to focus on our game, we know what there about but we will concentrate on our football and hopefully continue to play good football and get the result.”
